One year after the great oil spill
It’s been one year since the Deepwater Horizon oil rig blew up, and spilled a massive amount of oil right into the ocean. Now whats the result?
The blown out well released about 170 million gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico; over 1,050 miles of marshes and beaches were oiled; more than 6,000 birds, over 600 sea turtles, and more than 100 marine mammals were found dead; and more than one-third of American Gulf waters were closed to fishing. Since the beginning of 2011, over 150 dead bottlenose dolphins – many times more than normal – have washed ashore.
